Allergy: Soya

Soya and its derivatives can be found in many products, including these shown below:


Soya is a common ingredient in many of today’s foods. The beans can be eaten fresh, dried or made into soya flour, which is often found in bread and baked goods. Soya allergy is quite rare in the UK compared with all the other main allergens.

Found in: Bean sprouts, Canned tuna, Miso, Soy milk, Soy oil, Soy sauce, Surimi, Tamari sauce, and Teryaki sauce.




Symptoms of a soya allergy may range from mild to severe and include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhoea, nausea, or vomiting
  • Runny nose, wheezing, or trouble breathing
  • Fever blisters
  • Fever
  • Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
  • Skin reactions including hives and eczema
  • Itching and swelling
