Sulphites are preservatives used in the production of some foods and drinks. Sulphite allergy is quite rare and is more prevalent in people who suffer with asthma, reactions can cause wheezing and coughing, severe symptoms are rare.
Found in: Canned Fruit, Cooking Wine, Frozen Fruit, Meat colourants, and Tomato Puree products.
Sulphites can cause allergy-like symptoms in people with underlying asthma and allergic rhinitis. The incidence of sulphite sensitivity in the general population is thought to be less than 2%, but this rises to between 5 and 13% in asthmatics.
